Scope and Contents
Collection contains five scrapbooks (1948-1966) that chronicle the early days of the Chicago Resettlers Committee and its metamorphosis into the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC). Clippings, in Japanese and English, document organizational and personnel changes, the explosive growth of the Japanese American community in Chicago, noteworthy achievements, biographical profiles, obituaries, cultural and social events.

Scrapbook contains clippings in English and Japanese; clippings are pasted to pages; some are labeled with the date and a code such as “CT,” which presumably indicates that article was published in the Chicago Tribune; clippings contain general information about the Chicago Resettlers Committee and the Japanese American community as a whole; of note are articles related to Chicago Resettlers Committee name change to the Japanese American Service Committee, articles related to Jack Yasutake’s naturalization and subsequent passing and information about Prince Akihito’s visit to Chicago in 1953; pages are brittle and are ripping away from the binding
