Scope and Contents
Collection contains five scrapbooks (1948-1966) that chronicle the early days of the Chicago Resettlers Committee and its metamorphosis into the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC). Clippings, in Japanese and English, document organizational and personnel changes, the explosive growth of the Japanese American community in Chicago, noteworthy achievements, biographical profiles, obituaries, cultural and social events.

Scrapbook contains clippings in English; clippings labeled with the date and, in some cases, the source; pages are brittle and ripping away from the binding; of note are articles related to JASC’s move from 1110 North LaSalle Street to 3257 North Sheffield in Chicago on March 27, 1965, an open house program and invitation, a program from a variety show hosted by JASC in 1966, and an issue of the “JASC Bulletin" printed in 1965
