Scope and Contents
The Frank M. Saito collection primarily consists of documents related to Lakeside Japanese Christian Church. The material reflects the organization, mission, financial stability and history of the church as well as Saito’s involvement and commitment to volunteerism. Collection includes annual reports, programs and agendas from annual Christian conferences, missionary information and newsletters, religious education materials and “Lamplighter” newsletters (1954-2001).
Family papers include personal correspondence, military paperwork, death certificates and photographs (1946-2002). Also present are several items related to Saito’s internment at Rohwer (1943-1990) and news clippings and a press kit related to the subsequent Japanese American Redress campaign (1981). Saito’s Military Intelligence Service (MIS) certificates of completion and recognition, discharge and veterans paperwork are included (1947-1992). Finally, collection includes Issei Farmer History (n.d.), photographs (1964-2002) and correspondence in Japanese (ca. 1929-1996).
