Portraits of Iwao and Yamane family, 1940s
Scope and Contents
The collection is a mixture of Iwao, Yoshiye, and Hiroshi Yamane’s materials, mostly from their years in Chicago. Some items from their time in the internment camp, such as a directory, and biographical information from Iwao’s family are also present. The bulk of the materials are related to Iwao’s professional endeavors and personal photos, including many of Japanese families they may have met in incarceration camps or after the family’s move to Chicago. The photograph series has been divided into two sub-series, personal and professional. There are also various materials relating to Hiroshi’s childhood and young adulthood, including school photos. Also included are artifacts, such as Yoshiye’s hats from approximately the 1940s-1950s.
