Scope and Contents
The Jerry Jiro Katayama Photograph Collection consists of photographs taken of his parents, Frank Ryotaro and Hisa Sato Katayama, prior to their immigration to the United States and when they first settled into life on the West Coast (ca. 1910s-1930s). Early photographs of Jerry and his siblings are present as well. The majority of the collection consists photos taken by Jerry during his military experience (1943-1947) and photos of his friends and family. Also included are photos related to bowling.

Most of these black and white photos are not identified although one is labeled “At Kasuga Shrine, 15 Jan. 1947, Miss Emma Mori, Nara, Japan” and another is labeled “At Kushihara Shrine (Yuji-Cho, Nara-ken) April 2, 1947” (SCAN); photos depict Army personnel and unidentified individuals and landscapes in Japan
