Scope and Contents
The Kameoka Tamada collection contains scrapbooks that document Ruby’s time at the Cook County School of Nursing and her employment at Cook County Hospital (CCH), the theatrical and social events that she attended, newspaper clippings related to CCH and medical procedures, hand-crafted gifts from patients, greeting cards to celebrate holidays, newsletters from Colorado, matchbooks, correspondence from friends stationed domestically and abroad during WWII, communications from the Illinois State Nurses association, ticket stubs and programs from a variety of Chicago events. The collection also includes the Chicago Japanese American Yearbook, which contains profiles of prominent Japanese Americans, advertisements for businesses and events, and a directory of all Japanese Americans residing in Chicago.

Scrapbook has black covers; nameplate is present on interior cover which reads “Ruby Mitsuye Kameoka, R.N.”; contents in good condition; 50 pages; material includes information about Chicago events, ticket stubs, business cards, student newsletters, newspaper clippings; collection also contains the following: pages 2. Information about Ruby’s sister, Mrs. M. Sanzo Shigeta, who lived in Pueblo, Colorado and information about a J.Y.P.C.P. event; 3. Article indicates that Ruby graduated from Pueblo Central High School in 1935, but spent three of her four high school years in Raton, New Mexico; 8.-11. Ruby is enrolled in Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, 1936-1937; 13. House regulations at Cook County School of Nursing; 14.-15. Ruby was a monitor at her residence hall; 33. Matchbooks; 39.
