Scope and Contents
The Phillip Elkins Photograph Collection contains photos of the United States occupation and reconstruction of Japan after World War II. An unknown photographer documented many aspects of the occupation including the presence of United States servicemen and servicewomen, Japanese people going about their daily lives and the reconstruction of buildings. Also included are postcards, a typed document entitled the “Three Best Scenic Spots in Japan,” loose photographs of a home interior, a train ticket from Yokohama to Kokura and a photograph of a man in uniform captioned “Major Cabrina, Hawaii.”
