Biographical / Historical

Hirouki (Donks) Miyagawa (d. 1999) was eleven years old and suffering from tuberculosis in Seattle, Washington when World War II began. For the duration of the war, he was held in a sanitorium in Pasadena, California while his parents and siblings were held in an internment camp. His parents gave him their family photographs for safekeeping during the war. Hirouki settled in Chicago after the war concluded and worked at LaSalle Photo.
