Biographical / Historical

The J. Toguri Mercantile Co. was founded by Jun Toguri in Los Angeles, California. During World War II, the business was shuttered when Toguri and his family were interned at the Gila River Relocation Center in Arizona. Upon their release, the Toguri family settled in Chicago and re-opened their family business in the 1950s. The business sold Japanese gifts, foods and books.
