The Fusaichi Frank Hyosaka Artifact Collection contains a handcrafted box that was created during Hyosaka’s internment in Minidoka Relocation Center, Idaho (1943).

Biographical / Historical

Fusaichi “Frank” Hyosaka (March 25, 1899-1950) was born in Wakayama, Japan. In 1915, he accompanied his father and brother to the United States and settled in Oakland, California. After he finished his schooling, he attended an automobile school in San Francisco from which he graduated in 1921. When World War II began, Hyosaka was sent to the Sacramento Assembly Center (also known as Walerga). From there, he was interned at Tule Lake Relocation Center and then in the Minidoka Relocation Center. Upon his release, he moved to Chicago where he passed away in 1950.
