Biographical / Historical

Born in 1921 in the San Joaquin Valley of California, Fred Iwao Yamaguchi was interned at Rohwer War Relocation Center in Desha County, Arkansas. He married Margaret (Maggie) Mitsuko Hagio, born May 25, 1922 in Stockton, California, in Desha on June 4, 1944. Following the war, the couple resettled in the Chicago area and lived in Morton Grove for many years. Little is known of the Yamaguchis' professional lives; however, they were apparently active in the Midwest Buddhist Temple. They had three children, Bob, Tom, and Peggy. They became grandparents to 8 and great-grandparents to 8.
