Biographical / Historical

George Takashi Ito, a Hawaiian resident, and was just a mile away when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. When Ito reached the age requirement, he promptly volunteered for the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and was inducted on June 12, 1943. Ito was trained as a paratrooper, interpreter and interrogator and was stationed in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Ito was a highly decorated soldier and was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. After the war, Ito married and settled with his wife and three daughters in Chicago, Illinois. He was a longtime employee of IBM. On November 2, 2011, Ito received the Congressional Gold Medal - United States’ highest civilian honor.
