Biographical / Historical
Tamiye Meehan (née Fujibayashi) was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1942. She is the third child (of four) born to Dr. Thomas A. Fujibayashi and Virginia Fujibayashi. Meehan worked at the Chicago Public Library for 23 years - serving as a branch district chief for 19 years - and then obtained a position as the Library Director for the Indian Trails Public Library District in Wheeling, Illinois for 12 years. She has served on the board of the Illinois Library Association from 1999-2002 and 2005-2005. Meehan has held the positions of ILA Board treasurer from 2000-2002 and ILA Board president from 2006-2007. She has chaired several ALA committees and served terms as president of APALA (Asian Pacific American Librarians Association) and EMIERT (then Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table). Meehan is a member of the Wheeling Rotary Club and was Club president 2004-2005 and will serve in 2012-2013 as well. Retired in 2009.
