Scope and Contents
Collection contains Japanese-English dictionaries that were used when Shunichi Nakagawa served in the Military Intelligence Service (ca. 1944). Also included is a book entitled “We the People: A Story of Internment in America” (1987).

Biographical / Historical
Marian Nakagawa (née Fujimoto) was born in 1925. After Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, Marian and her family were sent to the Fresno Assembly Center and were later interned at the Jerome Relocation Center in Arkansas.
Marian was later married to Shunichi Nakagawa (1925-2011), whose family had been sent to the Puyallup Assembly Center and then to the Minidoka Relocation Center. During World War II, Shunichi was inducted into the Military Intelligence Service. He graduated from Fort Snelling, Minnesota in December 1944 and was stationed in the Philippines and Tokyo, Japan.
